ABUJA, September 13 — The Akwa Ibom State Government on Thursday issued a forceful denial of any involvement in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) recent seizure of a Lagos residence said to belong to former Governor Udom Emmanuel. In a statement read by Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the administration described the accusation levelled by ADC governorship candidate Senator John Akpanudoedehe as “false, reckless and without foundation.”

Umanah said the video posted by the senator, which claimed that Governor Umo Eno had tipped off the EFCC, was nothing more than a political stunt designed to sow discord in the state. “For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Umo

Eno has never reported anyone to the EFCC,” he said, adding that he himself has never reported his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, to the agency. "I make bold to say that I have never reported anyone, let alone my predecessor in office, to the EFCC. I stand to be challenged or contradicted," he affirmed.

The seized property, located in Lagos, was alleged to be part of Emmanuel’s personal assets. However, the Akwa Ibom government insists there is no evidence linking the governor or his administration to the EFCC’s action. The commission’s move, according to officials, is an independent investigation and not the result of any tip‑off from the current

state leadership.

Umanah also highlighted the continuity of governance in the state, noting that the present administration has maintained relationships with officials who served under the former governor and has completed projects inherited from previous regimes. He warned that unverified statements could fuel tension and division, urging all political actors to focus on development rather than mud‑slinging.

Senator Akpanudoedehe, who made the claim in a short video shared on social media, has not responded to requests for comment. The EFCC has not issued a statement confirming the source of its information about the Lagos house.

politics ahead of the 2027 elections. They advise that parties should avoid unfounded allegations that could distract from policy agendas.

The Akwa Ibom government reaffirmed its commitment to good governance, stating that it will continue to work on infrastructure, health, and education projects without being derailed by sensational claims. The ministry also called on the media to verify information before publishing, stressing that responsible journalism is essential for national cohesion.

As the story develops, observers will watch for any further statements from the EFCC or the parties involved, but for now the Akwa Ibom administration maintains that it had no role in the Lagos property seizure.
