VDM Questions Military Spending, Says Nigeria’s Insecurity Crisis Raises Serious Concerns

Social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, has stirred reactions online after questioning the effectiveness of military operations against insecurity in parts of Nigeria.

Speaking in a video posted on his social media page, VDM compared the military's response to attacks on communities involving soldiers with its response to attacks allegedly carried out by bandits and other criminal groups on Senior officers.

According to him, communities often face severe consequences whenever military personnel are attacked by civilian communities. He argued that the same level of force and determination is not always seen in operations against criminal elements operating in remote areas.

VDM also referenced past incidents involving attacks on senior military officers, claiming that some areas linked to such attacks have not witnessed the level of military action many Nigerians would expect.

The activist further alleged that the persistence of insecurity in the country has raised questions about whether some individuals within the security system benefit from the current situation. However, he did not provide evidence to support the claim.

He also expressed concerns about defense spending, questioning the level of transparency in the management of military budgets. VDM claimed that the public often lacks access to detailed records showing how funds allocated to security agencies are spent.

His comments have generated debate on social media, with some Nigerians supporting calls for greater accountability in defense spending, while others argue that security operations and military procurement are often subject to confidentiality due to national security considerations.
