BREAKING: Defence Chief Gen. Musa Warns Against Hijacked Protests, Directs Military to Embed Media in Operations

ABUJA, NIGERIA — In an urgent national security alert, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has issued a strong warning to social media influencers and groups mobilizing for nationwide protests, warning that such actions carry severe, unintended security risks. Speaking via his official X account, the top military commander stated that while the military respects the constitutional right of citizens to protest, the current security atmosphere makes such gatherings highly susceptible to infiltration by hostile elements.

"I've seen of recent a lot of social media giants going around trying to raise protests. Nobody is stopping anyone from protesting," General Musa stated in his online dispatch. "But we should always remember the unintended consequences because when you do that, the process might be hijacked, and innocent people might be injured or killed." The warning comes amid heightened tensions across the country as various groups use digital platforms to coordinate mass actions over economic hardships.

To bridge the gap between public perception and the reality of military operations, General Musa announced a groundbreaking media-military initiative. The Defence Headquarters is now finalizing plans to embed civilian media experts directly with frontline troops deployed in the country’s most volatile regions, including the Northeast, Northwest, and North Central zones.

According to the CDS, this program will allow journalists and social media influencers to witness firsthand the extreme conditions and life-threatening challenges Nigerian troops face daily. "We are making efforts to see that we provide avenues for some of these media experts to be embedded with our troops when they are going on operations in the Northeast, Northwest, and North Central," General Musa explained. "This is so that they have a real feel of what the troops go through and the challenges ahead. Maybe then they will have a better understanding of the situation."
